Course Descriptions

Basic Art-Drawing and Painting I, II, III—Each Basic Art class, though numbered, are not necessarily meant to be taken in order. Because I value teaching new and innovative approaches to art and creative expression I want to make sure that each student receives a variety of experiences that essentially do not repeat themselves. This ensures that your child will have a new experience and explore elements of design such as line, shape, space, and balance in different ways with each class that they take. Basic Art covers the foundation principles of art and will help students to build their artistic vocabulary, focus on understanding design by learning Art History, and will provide a variety of experiences. Students will create 3 canvas paintings, create and bind their own sketchbooks (using a bookbinding technique called Japanese Stab binding), and will participate in an art Gallery showing at the end of the course. Family is invited to gather to celebrate the artistic endeavors of their student at the gallery event.

Open Classroom—This class is meant to give a taste of what our Basic Art class provides to students. Students will learn the elements of design and Art History  and will complete one canvas painting. Since this class is open for students to schedule as they please, instruction will not include projects that take longer than once class period.  Students from the Basic Art Course that are in need of making up a class are welcome to take a place in the Open Classroom as long as there is a space open. There is a minimum requirement of scheduling 3 classes during the summer schedule. Make-up classes are also available in August.
